We managed to raise an amazing £1600.00 during the Brighstars project which beat last years total of £1533.10. We managed to do this by holding enterprising and fund raising events including: cake sales, toy raffles, creative competitions and supermarket bag packing as well as an Easter Fayre. The £1600.00. will be split between school funds and the Cumbria Flood Appeal. The following charities will receive the following donations;

Teaching and Learning in Windermere (Year 6) Summer Term 1

This term in preparation for the up and coming SATs we will be working hard in all subjects across the board! Our topic is based around Harry Potter and we will be doing lots of exciting writing based around the text including : character descriptions of Wizards, letters home, instructions for making potions, explanation texts for playing quid ditch and many other exciting genres!

We will be looking at the exciting text How to train your Dragon for our rainbow reading lessons and partaking in many exciting exploring, retrieving, detection and analysing activities based around the book!

In science we are going to be continuing our work on plants and animals and classifications and exploring famous scientists in the field including Charles Linneaus.

In our topic work there will be exiting the deserts and the Arctic and Antarctic regions. We will also be looking into World War 2 in history and practising our skills in sticking to rules in PE  as well as choreographing a dance to go with the Harry Potter theme tune. There is also much more to look forward too! It is going to be a busy yet rewarding term!

Bright stars Project

Once again we are working with Shaun from U – Can Shine to compete in the prestigious Bright stars enterprise mission. Our task is to make as much money as we possibly can from an initial investment of £50.00. This year we have decided to support the charity The Cumbria Flood Appeal which ties in nicely with our topic. All monies raised will be evenly split between this charity and School.

The year 6 children have been working hard on this project and have already came up with many money making ideas including; Design your own robots, film night, cake sale, as well as supermarket bag packing! Watch this space too as over the next few weeks there will be many more ideas and events as we try to beat last years total of £1533.10!
