Year 5 Grasmere
Teaching and learning in Grasmere class – Autumn Term 2
Our topic this term is World War 2. During this term, we will be looking at the book Goodnight Mr. Tom and imagining life as an evacuee. We will also look at a range of poetry about World War 2 and attempt our own pieces. Finally, we will look at the rules imposed during the blackout in Britain and then write our own set of instructions.
In rainbow reading we will be reading through Goodnight Mr. Tom and comparing the different characters within the book.
We will be covering a range of units in our Maths this term. First, we will be looking at different methods for multiplying increasingly large numbers. We will also be looking at multiplying by 10, 100 and 1,000. We will then move on to division, whilst also covering square numbers, cube numbers and factors.
During this term, we will be looking at forces such as air resistance, gravity and water resistance. We will complete a range of experiments such as making parachutes for model soldiers and measuring water resistance on model boats.
Our PE days this term are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school.
Homework will be sent home half termly. It will consist of a range of different tasks. Children can choose a variety of these to do for the set date.
