Together we can achieve

Year 1 Rydal

Teaching and Learning in Rydal Class (Year 1) Spring term 1

This term our topic is Toys. We will be using a variety of toys to help us solve multiplication and division problems and we will continue to use a range of methods to help us with addition and subtraction especially adding and taking away in ones and tens.

We will be looking at 3D shapes and recognising which 3D Shapes we can identify within our toys and identifying odd and even numbers. . We will continue to work with money, time and describing and beginning to record lengths, heights. We will learn about using descriptive language in our writing, labelling and writing recounts. Through our Victorian Day we will be learning how to work as a team and learn to play some old games which will help us to develop our speaking and listening skills.

We will use the books Lost In The Toy Museum, Dogger and some non-fiction books about toys to help us identify the similarities and differences between fiction and non-fiction.

We will make our own moving toy and designing it ourselves, we will think about primary and secondary colours when we paint our favourite toy. We will be doing lots of work on identifying different materials that toys are made from and looking at different properties. We will talk about how we look after our own toys and other people’s and the importance of sharing. We will look at old and new toys and see if we can recognise any differences.
